Vicksburg, Mississippi day 2

We had a busy day planned as today was our only full day in Vicksburg.  We started off at the Old Courthouse Museum . . .
It had a great history of Vicksburg!  It was well worth the visit!  Next stop was the River Front Murals . . .
A local artist paints these massive murals (about 30 or so) depicting events of Vicksburg.  In front of the mural gives a description or background of the mural.
I liked this one.
Who knew?  It was a Saturday so we decided to walk around the downtown area . . . hardly a soul out.  We headed over the Rusty's River Front Grill for a late lunch.  OH MY, it was so yummy!  I had read about it and every person I asked around town where to eat always said Rusty's.  No reservations so be prepared to wait and was I glad we went!  They had fried green tomatoes that were out of this world!  Not just fried green tomatoes but also topped with hollandaise sauce and lump crab meat.  Did I mention how amazing they tasted?  We shared but next time I would order it all for myself.  The shrimp po-boy was pretty darn good too!  Colin wasn't that impressed but oh well.  I had promised him ice cream so we headed to Biedenharn Coca-Cola Museum.  It was the first place Coca-Cola was bottled in the world back in 1894.  They had an old soda fountain so we had a scoop of ice cream.  We were full so off we went.
We headed back to the Vicksburg Military Park to do the south loop . . . yes, it is that big!  Of course we had to stop by the Texas Monument . . .
. . . and Colin wanted to explore more of the hundreds of cannons . . .
. . . it was great to let him get out of the car and run around!  On the way out of the park, we found the site where Grant and Pemberton had their interview on July 4, 1863.
It started to rain so decided to head back downtown to check out the Lower Mississppi River Museum.  It was okay only because the main exhibit we wanted to see (M/S Mississippi IV vessel)was closed due to the rain.  Oh well . . . so we headed back to the hotel for the evening reception and swimming!
