Day 6: Kodiak towards Homer

So of course we did not drive from Kodiak to Homer . . . in fact we did not make it all the way to Homer either.  We started the day off walking around the harbor area near our hotel in Kodiak looking at the boats while the workers prepared their vessels before heading out to the open water.
A harbor seal popped his head too quickly to snap a photo but he was cute!  As we walked Colin noticed jelly fish in the water . . .
. . . I thought it was odd they were in the harbor area, but they were cool.  We headed back to the hotel to check out and head to the airport.  We again flew on Era Alaska from Kodiak to Anchorage and you guessed it the flight was delayed.  Thank goodness for things like iPads and phones to help pass the time!
And it helped that there were no arm rest between the seats too . . . of course I took advantage and tried to take a nap.
As you can see I still haven't mastered how to take a photo with my phone.  Oh well it passed the time and probably looked ridiculous too.  This is our 8th flight of the trip and only two have departed on time.  Again it was just a short flight but it still throws your plans off especially when we needed to pick up our rental car.  The rental car was good to go and brand spanking new . . . we headed out of town on the Seward Highway.  We are "living" in the car for the next week; I'm thrilled to not have to board a plane!  We did not eat lunch and I was starving!  Thank goodness for phones and the maps to locate a quick place to stop and eat.  We pulled in Wendy's and it really wasn't being so kind; no baked potato or chili season for my chili and they gave me sweet tea instead of the unsweet tea I ordered.  I know major world problems but it annoys me to order, reconfirm on the little screen, and they still get it wrong!  Why is it so hard to find good workers these days?

We were back on the Seward Highway and thankfully there was not much traffic.  Of course we are about 2 hours behind schedule but not so worried since Alaska has 20+ hours of daylight this time of year!  We are driving along the Kenai River and it is so blue and beautiful.  We made it to Cooper Landing to our home for the night, Gwin's Lodge.  It is nice and cute but very rustic!   Hey at least we have a shower and toilet in our room; no curtains in the bathroom though! Colin passed the time watching the Battle of the Bulge movie he purchased for $4 at the big box store in Kodiak.  And I fretted over no wifi connection, AGAIN!  Can't wait to explore the area tomorrow . . . this is the part of the trip I have looked forward to the most since we have fun activities planned.  Did I mention the Kenai River is gorgeous!
