Road Trip Day 1: let the driving begin

I swear I have not slept this much in months . . . I feel refreshed and ready to conquer the world.  Two years ago on my first trip to Alaska, I attended an Army Change of Command so it seems fitting that today I do the same . . .
. . . and then it was time to hit the road and get this ROAD TRIP officially started!  Today is a short drive day with an overnight stop in Tok, Alaska.  There are not many highways here in Alaska and they are either names or numbers; neither to which I can remember or make the connection.  First we drove on the Richardson Highway and made a stop at Delta Junction, Alaska which is the 'official' end/start of the ALCAN highway.  Most people drive from the lower 48 north but since I am already in Alaska, we are doing the route in the reverse . . .
The building of the ALCAN is pretty amazing considering the elements and the lack of experience of most soldiers.  We were about to officially start the drive on the ALCAN (Alaska-Canadian Highway) . . .
. . . mosquitoes in Alaska during the summer are huge and annoying says the girl from Texas . . .
No seriously they are really a pain.  It was back on the road . . .
. . . the views are amazing, but the dead bugs are constant and makes snapping a photo impossible!  Only 1,422 more miles to go on the ALCAN!  We arrived in Tok, Alaska . . . not much to say about the town but it was a quick check in at the Main Street Hotel and a very yummy dinner at Fast Eddy's Restaurant.

Miles traveled today:  210 miles
Total trip miles:  210 miles
