Today we headed to Fort Hood, Texas to visit the MacFarland family that we knew from our days in Vilseck, Germany. It just so happens that I taught their son, Philip. He was in my first 5th grade class at VES, and he is now a 1LT in the US Army. Trust me it makes me feel old! We had a yummy lunch and then headed off to one of the motor pools. I had not told Colin that he was going to have a chance to explore the ins and outs of a tank and Bradley . . . he just thought I was dragging him along for another one of those boring visits with some of mom's friends! As soon as we entered he could not wait to get inside and had the biggest smile on his face . . .
Philip was so kind to take him inside and answer all his questions . . . I can only imagine all Colin's questions. He reads about tanks ALL.THE.TIME so this was a great treat for him! In fact that smile NEVER left his sweet face the entire time! He really enjoyed every second while we were there and continued to talk about it the entire drive home. So thanks to the MacFarland, Sage, and James families for making this day special. It seemed like old times and was great to catch up!
It seemed fitting that we spend some time on an Army base during this Memorial Day weekend . . . no better place to reflect on Sean's service to our country and to let Colin enjoy some time hanging out doing something that his dad truly loved! We miss him dearly and remember him often!
