Day 10: Maine to Massachusetts

Just as I suspected when I went to bed, our LuLu Lobster Boat trip was cancelled.  The weather was yucky so I am sure it was for the best.  While I was so looking forward to this tour, I was really just disappointed.  The LuLu Lobster Boat company was so kind and very informative letting us know of the cancellation by email and a phone call.  I guess it just gives us a reason to come back to Bar Harbor some day!  We left town early and thankfully have a long sleeved shirt since it is only 55 outside today.  Since the weather and wind were not so fun, we did not make any stops which was okay . . . sometimes you just need those days with nothing planned.  The traffic and weather were not great.  It was miles and miles of this . . .
. . . unless we were sitting still in a traffic jam.  We stopped to get gas when Colin noticed a Texas Stop Sign . . . also known as Dairy Queen.  Interesting thing about DQs on the east coast, they only serve ice cream and not a full food menu like we are used to in Texas.  It was a nice break and back on the road again.  We did make the only scheduled stop to see a friend and former teacher from my days of teaching in Germany at Vilseck Elementary School.  We have kept in touch over the years by mail and email but haven't seen each other since 2004 when I left Germany.
It was great to see Ceci and Colin loved her puppies, Henry and Hershey . . .
Our hotel for the night was just a short drive which was good.  What should have taken us about 4 hours to drive today took over 7 hours.  I am excited because tomorrow is my last day of road trip driving!  We settled into the hotel and just hung out.  The funny thing was I booked a family suite . . . what I didn't know was that meant a king bed and a separate room with two toddler beds . . .
Yes, I managed to curl up and sleep in one but it wasn't the most comfortable.  Around 12:15am we heard the emergency alarm go off.  It was super loud and telling us to evacuate the hotel.  We were all in such a dead sleep that we weren't sure what to do so along with hundreds of other guest we left our room in our pajamas.  What a mess!  Oh and some people sleep in some interesting clothing.  After about 30 minutes an all clear was given so back to bed we went!

  1. How great to see that you visited Ceci! I knew she had a place in southern Maine when she left Germany but had no idea if she was still in that area. She looks wonderful! Thanks so much for posting that photo - I do love to keep up with old friends. ~Sue K
