Today is a new day! I am looking forward to exploring the area and having a fun but relaxing visit too. There is something about water that is calming and relaxing . . .
Our first stop was to Plymouth Rock . . .
. . . the rock is much smaller than it was originally due to people chipping off pieces but cool none the less. Then a short walk to see the Mayflower II. Luckily, the Mayflower II recently arrived back to the area after a dry dock renovation in Mystic, Connecticut. I was amazed at how small the ship was especially knowing the voyage was with 102 passengers!
I also loved chatting with the people who 'live' on the Mayflower II . . .
We loaded up the car and drove down the road to Plimouth Plantation. It should have been a sign to keep going when we saw 5 school buses in the parking lot! Of course that was not an option . . . Colin commented on how out of control some of the kids were acting. The school groups were about to stop for lunch so they really were not that much of an issue. We enjoyed just walking around and seeing the demonstrations with all the 'residents' . . .
I can not imagine living in such small house but then again maybe not a bad time period to live . . . well until winter. Back on the road . . . a quick zip through Rhode Island . . .
Can we say we visited Rhode Island? Now on to Connecticut . . . our stop for the night would be Mystic, Connecticut. Hey, I am a child of the 80s! It was late in the day so no time to visit any of the museums (Colin was so disappointed), but where did I really wanted to go? You better believe it . . . A Slice of Heaven!
. . . Mystic Pizza of course!
It was fun and yummy to eat there and now need to go back and watch the movie again. After we ate, we walked around the town. It was a cute town with small shops and wonderful weather too. We headed back to the hotel to relax and map out tomorrow's drive. About that time we started getting warning messages about severe thunderstorms. We are from Texas and they were not that bad. After the storm passed, we headed out for a light dinner at a place called Sea View Snack Bar. It was not fancy . . . think permanent food truck type building, but the food was fresh and yummy. I had my first clam.
It wasn't that bad but will stick to my other seafood favorites. Colin enjoyed watching the boats . . .
Next door was a place called Twisters Ice Cream. My mom and I shared a scoop of Sea Salted Caramel in a handmade waffle bowl. It was delicious! And about now was when the wind started blowing like crazy and the rain hit! We zipped back to the hotel for the night.
