to Washington, DC

It is no secret that I like to travel . . . if I could I would go somewhere every weekend.  I have a few favorite travel apps on my phone that I use often . . . sometimes it seems like an obsession.  My favorite app, On The Fly, will let me track the price of flights . . . you put in the cities, dates, and pick times and can update the prices whenever you want.  I track a lot of flights that are all based on school holidays and places we want to visit.  When I see one that I think is a good deal then I make the move!  You can't book the flights on the app so I head to the airlines website and close the deal.  So when I noticed a round trip flight from DFW to DCA for only $162 per person; I confirmed our tickets!  Colin was out of school on Monday since we did not have to use a 'bad weather day' in Texas this winter.  We would leave on the late flight Friday night (did not miss any school) and return early Monday morning . . . it would be a 52 hour adventure . . . Colin had only two request . . . see Logan and cupcakes!  I think that should be easy to do but little does he know there will be museums too!  He will be so thrilled when I let him on that secret.
So we made it to Washington, DC . . .earlier than planned but still late at night!  Our scheduled flight was to depart DFW at 8:05pm and arrive in DCA at 11:59pm.  Our drive to DFW was quick with no traffic so I asked if there were seats on the earlier flight.  Indeed there were 9 seats so we put on name on the stand-by list.  Colin asked me a few weeks ago when we were dealing with a cancelled flight to Colorado what it meant to fly 'stand-by' so this is the perfect opportunity to let him see how it works.  So we sat and watched our names on the screen and waited for the check mark to appear next to our names.  We were 6 and 8 on the list; not sure how someone got between us, but they did.  I was concerned because we just had a carry on bag so we needed to board in one of the early groups and flying stand-by you are usually the last ones to board.  Magically, as first class was boarding we were called to get our boarding passes and with our Priority Access which meant we could board immediately!  The bad part was our seats were not so great . . . Colin was 18E, and I was 30E.  I gave up good seats on the late flight to get crappy seats on the earlier flight but also knew arriving at least 90 minutes early would be nice too!  So I was in the last row next to the bathroom in the middle seat . . . with loads of overhead bin space . . . I guess something worked out for us.  Now what was I thinking when I reserved tickets at a museum at 10am tomorrow morning?
