Of course there were chickens too . . .
It was well worth the half hour to walk around even if there were a million lizards . . .The hotel where we are staying has a free shuttle to the old part of town which is where we want to visit today. It makes it nice that we don't have to drive to a very congested area or try to find parking which I am sure is expensive! Since many of the things we wanted to see are spread out we decided to take The Old Town Trolley Tour to get an overview of the city. It was okay . . . it was super hot and humid so I was just happy we were not walking to all these places. After the tour was over, we headed out to explore on foot. I had a list of a few places to try and grab a snack if we saw them and well we did! Glazed Donuts . . .
cherry pie, maple bacon, glazed, lemon poppy seed . . . 3 of us shared the fun flavors while Colin ate the boring glazed donut which was very good too. Just as the name says . . . some yummy gourmet donuts! Colin wasn't so interested in donuts but really wanted shaved ice. On the trolley tour, he saw a shaved ice cart and as luck would have it was around the corner . . . tiger's blood and grape shaved ice for him . . . and across the street was the end/start of US 1 . . .
. . . by this point we were all just hot and sweaty so we headed back to the hotel to relax and swim! The hotel pool was really nice and hardly anyone was there.
Apparently I took a nap at the pool which was so nice! My dad and Colin stalked the two large iguanas living around the pool. After we relaxed we headed to Mallory Square for some dinner and evening entertainment. My mom wanted to try Cuban food so found a place . . .
The food was okay and probably not the best Cuban restaurant in town, but she checked that block! As we ate Colin chased some chickens . . . if you have ever been to Key West you know what I am talking about if not well there are free range chickens and roosters EVERY WHERE! The tour guide said there are at least three for each human resident in the city. That is a lot of chickens! Mallory Square is the place to go to watch the sunset in Key West . . . too bad it was cloudy today.
The other fun part is all the crazy people who come out to do there acts and show off their talents. The one person I really wanted my parents to see was Dominique Circus Cats . . .
No visit to Key West is complete until you see his show! I just love this guy! I think my mom laughed the entire time. He really is a great entertainer and not to be missed! We had our fill of entertainment so back to the hotel we went! Oh and we walked 6.59 miles today.
