We said good-bye to Death Valley National Park. The cabin at Panamint Springs Resort we stayed in last night in day light before we left . . .
We loaded up the car and headed across the street to check out and for a not so cheap top off of fuel.
Yes, that is $4.48 per gallon for regular gasoline! Thankfully we only needed a few and this rental car gets good mileage. We officially left Death Valley . . .
I have visited a lot of National Parks and this one was amazing! It is one that I would come back to again . . . fun and relaxing too. It was too early and our stop for the day wasn't opened but as we pulled into the town we found The Golden Arches . . . breakfast and wifi! Double check . . . we were both happy to hang out for a bit. We then headed down the road to Manzanar National Historic Site. What? Manzanar is most widely known as the site of one of ten camps in the United States where over 110,000 Japanese Americans were forcibly removed during World War II from December 1942 to 1945. A really sad time in American history to know we did this to our own citizens . . . very educational and honestly until a few years back when we visited another internment camp I had no idea this happened in our country. Apparently I missed that day in American History. It is a small place but well worth the visit. The museum and video are both really good and then you get in your car and drive around to see the different parts of the camp. You could stop and explore as you wished . . .
. . . they were so loud that they quickly brought on a headache which was not fun with the long day of driving that was waiting for me. It was back on the road . . . the drive today was going to be looooonnnnnggg! Lucky me . . . I knew it would be the worse day but at least it was mainly highway driving and all paved with beautiful weather too. The one thing that really surprised me was there wasn't much of anything on our drive . . . no towns really, just wide open space which isn't good if you are wanting to stop and eat! We tried to detour a time or two and gave up. Thankfully we still had some snacks in the car. I was so excited when we pulled into Twentynine Palms for the night. We would stay tonight at a place called 29 Palms Inn . . . it was a delight . . . our cabin was called Fault Line and just adorable.
. . . too bad we are only here one night! We got unpacked and settled in before heading to dinner at the restaurant which happened to overlook the pool! Our food was soooo yummy. Most of the produce is grown on site in the garden and/or locally produced near by. The pasta was amazing with fresh spinach and mushrooms . . .
. . . and of course Colin had a filet which he said was very good, small but good. It was cooked perfect too . . .
We headed back to Fault Line to relax for the night.
