Whistler to Vancouver
We have had fabulous weather this trip . . . today, not so much! It is raining and just low clouds with fog which is a
total bummer. We are driving the Sea to
Sky Highway from Whistler to Vancouver which is suppose to have some amazing
views. I had also booked tickets for
three stops and most are outdoors so we will just go with it! I have set my expectations very low! Hey it is vacation and when you are on a
schedule you just go with plans and make the best.
First stop was Brandywine Falls . . .
. . . and then the Sea to Sky Gondola. Not seeing a whole lot, but we went. First stop was Brandywine Falls . . .
Britannia Mine Museum where they used to mine copper from 1904 to 1974.
I thought most of the
tour would be inside but well we had to do a lot of walking outside and it was
pouring rain! It was interesting. Can you imagine climbing these stairs to get to your spot for the day?
We were soaked but
thankfully Colin’s favorite activity was covered . . .
I was excited about our last stop Capilano Suspension Bridge until the weather was so yucky! Let's just say I have a fear of heights so this probably isn't the best place for me.
I did walk across the big suspension bridge but that was all I needed to do on our visit.
When we got to the other side of the bridge, I looked at my mom and said do you really want to do the other part . . . she said not really so we grabbed a coffee and beaver balls, the balls reminded me of a small pancake I had in the Netherlands . . . it was a perfect treat on a cold, rainy day.
The boys went off to have fun in the trees and rain. Of course when they found us they wanted a snack too! It is Friday afternoon and the Vancouver traffic is in full swing so wanted to hang out a bit before making the drive from North Vancouver to South Vancouver. I asked at least a half dozen of the employees for a nearby pizza place to eat and all they suggested was sushi. None of them seemed to know an Italian or pizza place near by so one of them gave me directions to a mall area where we found a yummy place called Trattoria to eat pizza and salad!
One item I love to have when I travel is a fold out map, but when you are driving it is impossible to read it and just not safe. I did not realize how much I have grown attached to my phone for directions until it doesn’t work. My cell data was not connecting so it’s hard to navigate when no one in the car can read a map. I was going off my memory of the map I looked at last night and signs which thankfully got us to the hotel. One of my faults when traveling is overreacting . . . when I ask for a direction I expect someone in the car to help me. I used to blow up but this trip I think I have been a lot better! Worst case is we have to stop and ask directions which I don’t mind doing!
I am really looking forward to having a couple nights in the same hotel to relax . . . well until we got to the room that was across from the elevator. I am going to predict this is not going to end well! We had already unpacked when I realized just how loud it was going to be for me to sleep. I have a suspicion I got this crappy location because I used points for the room so it was basically a free two night stay! I decided to just suck it up and called housekeeping to a fan. We shall see if this helps?
