My all time favorite city in Germany is Nurnberg . . . I just think it is a great city with a lot to offer. I don't know maybe it has something to do with the fact it was a quick train ride from where we lived and easy to get around . . . none the less I always feel so at home when I am standing in the center of the square. After we 'rented' a train pass (I love the Vilseck train station!), it was just a short 45 minutes to the center of Nurnberg. Our first stop was to buy a pretzel as we were both hungry . . .
I had planned on two kid friendly museums but we sort of lost track of time and only went to one. After all the field trips with my students to Nurnberg I had never been to the Spielzeugmuseum (Toy Museum). I was impressed at the displays . . . they even had toys out for kids to play with which really helped keep Colin interested. It was worth the few euros it cost and managed to suck away over an hour of our time. If you are wondering my all time favorite museum in Nurnberg is Albrecht Dürer's House.
I then wanted to get some Nurnberger bratwurst with senf (mustard) and sauerkraut so we went to a place that I had been to many times . . . oh how my mouth is watering just thinking about it! We had tried to go before the museum but it was packed so this time we found a table right by the grill!
After our quick snack we headed to the main square and just hung out . . . had an old pretzel in my pocket so Colin fed the pigeons while I just sort of took it all in . . . sort of sad but so happy to be back too.
It was getting late so we had one more stop to make . . . you care to guess? I was SO happy when I saw these places were already open . . . some eis (ice cream) of course . . . chocolate, hazelnut, and sahne (cream) . . . I can't wait to have it again. It was so creamy and yum yum yummy! I had promised Colin that before we got on the train he could go see the model train and 'drive' them too. He had been saving all the 50 euro cents and he managed to entertain himself for longer than I wanted . . . caught the train and headed back.
