Fredericksburg, Texas

No time to rest as I am heading out for a weekend trip!  Did you know the Texas Hill Country has over 50 wineries?  I know me either . . . so me, my aunt, and cousin are setting out to discover a few of them but first we made a pit stop in Marble Falls, Texas for pie . . .
. . . the pie is huge at the Blue Bonnet Cafe!  They even have Pie Happy Hour.  We shared a slice of Lemon and German Chocolate but that meringue on the lemon was huge!

Back on the road with our first stop at William Chris Vineyards.  We did not have a tasting reservation so we were lead to the outside pavilion to do an informal tasting which turned out to be super fun!  I mean look at the views . . .
. . . we loved tasting the wine and walking around the vineyard . . .
They had just harvested last week so not many grapes on the vine, but we found a few and gave them a taste . . .
A large percentage of grapes that the wineries use are actually grown up in the Texas High Plains area of Texas which is interesting to me.
It was back on the road for a stop at Southold Farm + Cellar . . . we were told this place had the best views . . .
. . .  and indeed they do!  It was just beautiful and we enjoyed hanging out on the back porch until the next tasting.  Most of the grapes used for these wines are from New York, but they did have one Texas wine.  We really enjoyed the host (owner's father) of the tasting and the amazing views!  It is off the beaten path and new vineyard but glad we detoured off the main road.  Our taste buds had enough wine so we headed downtown Fredericksburg to stroll along Main Street before heading to the hotel for the night!
