Day 7: home

It was suppose to be a day of hanging out and catching a late afternoon flight home but at 9am I got a text that our flight was canceled!  I quickly logged into my Southwest account and grabbed the last two seats on the really late flight.  I wasn't optimistic it would go so I searched high and low and I only had two other options; American or Spirit.  I am guilty of hoarding my frequent flyer miles and this is exactly why!  I was able to book us on a mid afternoon direct flight using my American miles . . . I wasn't happy using them as I could have used them on other more exotic trips, but we wanted to be home!

We enjoyed our morning and lunch hanging by the pool and I realized sometimes you just gotta roll with it but man it was so hard to rebook when flights are already full these days!  So we find lounge chairs by the pool and I had just gotten in the pool when they evacuated the pool for lightning 5 miles away.   So we go to the room and decide to head to MCO for our flight.

I also booked the first flight home for tomorrow morning on Southwest just in case so at this point we are booked on three flights (1 AA and 2 SW) so hopefully one of them goes!  And this is where the fun begins . . . the airport was a mess after security . . . like packed!
A lot of flights were delayed by hours . . . both arriving and departing.  The flight at our gate boarded and then a huge storm rolled in and they sat on the plane for almost 2 hours.  And then a passenger on the flight caused the problem by not wanting to wear his mask so they had to evacuate the entire plane with all the carry on bags too.  It was a mess!  By this point our flight was already an hour delayed due to late arriving inbound flight.  So the evacuated flight people are crowded around the gate area when the problem passenger was escorted off the plane by 4 security personnel.  Some heated words were exchanged with this man and other passengers that were inconvenienced.  The problem passenger kept proclaiming he had a 'medical condition' that prevented him from wearing the mask but in the terminal he had it on so I am not sure what his issue was at that point.  And you know what?  The person that caused all this hassle just sat at the gate across from us while the flight reboarded and took off.  He was booked on another flight and nothing else happened to him.  Seriously?  Why could they not have removed him?  We finally boarded our plane . . . so who got us home . . .
. . . American Airlines . . . guess it was miles well spent and we arrived home in time to grab our post vacation meal too!
