Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City is a new place for us to visit.  Our trip started with upgraded seats with a yummy meal!
The flight to SLC was easy and looking forward to exploring the city for a few days.  We have been to the SLC airport a few times, but usually grab our rental car and head out of town.  So my poor planning was a bit off.  I guess I am rusty!  We were in town over New Years, the weather was not great . . . it snowed a lot and was so pretty but not much was open!  So we made the best of it.  Thankfully we had a super nice upgraded room in the newly opened Hyatt Regency Salt Lake City.  We were able to get a lot of rest!  Having the dining room and living room were nice since we spent a lot of time hanging out in the room!
The snow was endless, but I loved it!  It was really easy to walk around just hard to find places that were open.  Utah is used to this weather and sidewalks were always cleared of snow.
So mainly we walked a lot and ate a lot too.  We ate at several yummy restaurants such as Settebello Pizzeria, Carson Kitchen, Copper Onion, Caputo's Deli, and a yummy snack at Bruges Belgian Bistro
We were able to walk to Temple Square and catch the daily organ recital!  It was fabulous!  It was too bad the Tabernacle Choir was not preforming while we were here too.
It was just amazing!  The lights changed colors during the show (no photos allowed) and the organist gave a presentation on the sound features before she started her music.  It was well worth the 45 minutes and free!  After the recital, we walked around Temple Square.
We walked by this group of signs many times but up close you could not tell there was a bigger message . . . so we stood back.
One thing that I have noticed is that there are a lot of bars in SLC.  I was surprised.  The other thing that surprised me is that you must be 21 to enter even if they do serve food.  If it is a bar and restaurant combined then minors are not allowed so we missed out on a few places.  They were very strict about entering and usually had someone at the front door checking identification.
Our favorite meal was at Carson Kitchen.  We are not usually appetizer people, but today we branched out and had the fried chicken skins with honey.
They were pretty good but eating more than a couple was too many.  I also ordered that fun drink in the honey bear, The Angry Tony.  I have not idea what was in it but I sure had a nice nap when we returned to the hotel!  The best part was dessert, which we don't usually order either, glazed donut bread pudding.  I did not think Colin would even think about eating bread pudding but we were dueling spoons especially the sauce!
It was nice to just walk around with no plans . . . all that we could really do since it was a holiday but we loved stumbling upon places like Bruges Belgian Bistro and having a yummy waffle even if we did have to stand outside in the snow!
Can you figure out who ordered which waffle?  We enjoyed our time in SLC even if it was very slow paced . . . sometimes that is exactly what you need.  Tomorrow we move on to more fun in the snow.
