Breckenridge day 1

Well, it is time for our yearly trip to Colorado for the kiddos to ski.  Yes, I only have one child, but we meet up with our friends (mom and 2 girls), and have a grand time!  Breckenridge was SO much fun last year we decided to make it a repeat destination!  Honestly, I am a little afraid that a new town would never be as good as Breck!  We all love it!  We arrived yesterday just in time to hit afternoon traffic in Denver but quickly rolled into town with groceries and kids begging to get out of the car!  This year we rented a townhouse . . . not just any house but a house in White Wolf (not that that means anything to anyone but it was an area we took note of last year because of its great location) . . . it was AMAZING!

I am in charge of activities and always plan the first full day as low key so we can adjust to the altitude.  I decided we would go snow shoeing!  I was excited and the rest of the crew was acting to be excited too!  We booked with our friends (not really but they are super nice there) at the Breckenridge Nordic Center to have a 1.25 hour private guided snow shoe adventure . . . hey we are skipping missing school so needed something some what educational.  We were staying right next door to the Nordic Center so arrived to get fitted with our snow shoes and head out with our guide Sarah.  She was a delight and well she put up with our group of 5.  During our adventure I learned she was a former teacher who decided to make a career change a couple years back; she was fabulous with the three kids!  At the half way point, we stopped at Josie's Cabin for a break, snack, and to warm up.  Sarah gave a great lesson on the history of the cabin and the family that lived there . . .
The kids were very good and listened to her stories!  It was time to get back out in the sun and enjoy more snow shoeing.  It all went to hell after this!  Look how excited . . .
Seriously with views like this; why should one be mad?
It was beautiful BUT well this is what happened next . . .
Oh indeed he was a delight, LOL . . . you can so see it written on his face!  He was d-o-n-e and hated every last second of snow shoeing.  I must admit it was a workout but come on it is walking!  The kids were not impressed at all.  The adults were having a blast!  It was time to head back to the house for lunch and mandatory rest time if they were going to get to do the afternoon activity!  I promised they could at least go down the sled hill a couple times . . . and after 5 minutes this is my happy camper!
Seriously, how annoyed I was but some times you just have to let it go!  We ate and rested and headed to the top of Peak 8 to do early check in for ski school . . . what a mess . . . I had signed up for lessons and lift tickets but no equipment rentals . . . got it all fixed (which meant more $$$$) and headed to the Peak 8 Gold Runner Coaster!  WOW, talk about 3 happy kids!  It was $16 for a single ride or $29 for unlimited rides; guess which one we did?
Colin was SO excited that he was finally tall enough to ride alone . . . barely but those snow boots pushed him over the minimum height!  I forgot how fun these things were . . . brought back memories from Pottenstein, Germany.  It was a long way up and I was nervous about the temperatures but it was a blast!
What a way to end the day!  The kids were pumped and the day was done so back down to our house for dinner and relaxing in the hot tub of course!  I told you this house was amazing!  Just how amazing?  Well this is the view from the back yard . . .
AMAZING!
