Rain, Rain, Rain! We woke up to more rain which is a bummer when you plan to hike. I changed our route of travel since we had already traveled the plan route at least three times. I thought the long way would be better! I did not want to get drenched early in the day so we drove around and found the Museum of the National Park Ranger so decided it would be good since it was indoors. Nice history of the park rangers.
The post on the front porch was pretty cool looking.
As we were finishing up at the museum we noticed the rain had stopped and the sun was out so we headed back to the Norris Geyser Basin for our hike. It was a great hike with beautiful views too. The colors are just amazing.
Most people know the Old Faithful geyser but it is not the largest/biggest geyser in Yellowstone. The Steamboat Geyser is the largest but not as predictable on when it might erupt. We managed to be there just in time to watch it go off . . . it wasn't a huge eruption but it went off.
We jumped back in the car and headed to the Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces. They were much different than the geysers but super cool too! We drove around the Upper Terraces and then stopped by the cafeteria for lunch. Apparently everyone else had the same idea because it was packed. We still had plenty of time before we could check into our cabin so no big deal. We stopped at the Petrified Tree . . .
. . . sadly it is fenced off because some visitors have decided to chip off and steal pieces of the tree; some things I just don't understand! Just a few miles down the road we arrived at Roosevelt Lodge where we would be staying the night. This guy was apparently the welcoming committee . . .
. . . he did not have time to stop grazing and properly greet us! Our cabin was ready, and I could not wait to see the inside . . .
. . .it was cute! So you aren't seeing a bathroom because it doesn't have a toilet or shower in the room. It doesn't even have running water or heat either. There is a stove if you want to build a fire but we are all allergic to the smoke so no fire for us. Not too far away is a shower/toilet house that was nice and warm. We got settled and then headed out for the Roosevelt Cookout and Wagon Ride.
The food was really good! Of course my little meat eater was loving it! No sides needed just steak.
It started raining as we headed back to the corrals. We got back home to the cabin and it was COLD! We all smelled like campfire so a shower was a must. I will admit it was sort of fun and the showers were amazingly HOT. It was all very private and no one else was ever in there with us. Hopefully the night goes well.
