Fredericksburg, Texas

I have been wanting to take Colin to Fredericksburg to go visit the National Museum of the Pacific War for a few years.  Since there was no school on Monday, I made plans to leave as soon as his soccer game was over . . . which of course this week was at 3pm . . . only to show up and it be cancelled due to lightening.  Oh well . . . anyway, on Sunday they were having live reenactments in the Pacific Combat Zone.  It was going to be a total surprise!  Of course as we headed south the weather was gorgeous.  We arrived late and settled into the hotel to watch the Aggies play Ole Miss.  Those Aggies sure know how to stress me out!

A little background . . . Fredericksburg is the hometown of Admiral Chester Nimitz who was a commander in the Pacific War.  There is also a  museum dedicated just to him which we did not visit this trip.

The next morning we woke to rain . . . lots of standing rain puddles.  I checked the website and the event was cancelled.  Total bummer!   It wasn't raining but due to the heavy overnight rain there was a lot of flooding so they had to cancel the event.  We headed to the Pacific Museum . . .
. . . the exterior is super cool with great touches.  Since the event had been cancelled the museum honored our tickets for admission, which was really nice and saved some money!  The museum was amazing . . . we were the only people inside for the first hour which was awesome.  Colin loved some of the videos so much we watched them twice.  We ended up staying over 2 hours and left because we were both hungry.  It got two thumbs up and never once heard, "where is the exit?"   A few highlights . . .

Since Fredericksburg has a strong German heritage there was absolutely no question in my mind where we would be eating lunch . . . I sooooo miss the food from Germany.  After research and asking a few locals we head to der Lindenbaum.  I thought I had walked right back into a German restaurant.  There was even a sign on the door cash only and the menu was short with limited options (all good of course) . . . I was loving it!  I had Jagerschnitzel and Colin had a wiener.  He was so excited that it was just like the ones in Germany.
We headed back to the car and made our way home . . . of course not one single rain drop all day.  We will just have to go back again to the combat zone.
