Last year this exact same weekend we headed to Fredericksburg just to see the National Museum of Pacific War Living History program. It rained so much that they cancelled the event so we just enjoyed the museum. This year we headed back and would you believe that it rained again but at least they did not cancel this year! We had tickets for the 10:30 event so headed to the museum for another visit . . . this is one museum that Colin asks to go to often; he loves it! We were the first people in the doors that morning so loved having the museum to ourselves for a bit. It really is a great museum and the displays are top notch . . .
I grabbed our tickets, and we walked to the 'Pacific Combat Zone' for the event. Again, they have some amazing war memorabilia and even see up close the world's only restored combat veteran PT boat. I wasn't sure what to expect during the event but was really surprised at how educational and professional the information was presented. The entire event was 90 minutes with about 75 being education about weapons and the history of all aspects down to what gear was worn by soldiers. Colin was thrilled and loved every second of it especially at the end when they did the 'battle'.
. . . and when this rolled out he was wanting to take a ride . . .
After the event was over we walked to Main Street for lunch at our favorite German food restaurant, der Lindenbaum . . .
. . . someone was happy to have his favorite frankfurters . . . my food was so yummy that I forgot to snap a photo. We jumped back in the car for the drive home with the plan to stop in Marble Falls for dessert . . . not just any dessert but pie at the Blue Bonnet Cafe. The line was out the door but don't let that scare you to leave . . . we only waited about 10 minutes until we had a table . . . pies you say . . . look at that meringue . . .
Colin had Cherry pie while I had German Chocolate . . .
It was yummy. I have a feeling we will be making a return visit to all the places we visited this weekend!
