Florida day 2

We packed up and headed north on the A1A towards Amelia Island.   Let me say it is much easier to pack for a beach vacation than a ski vacation; a few swimsuits, flip flops, couple shorts and shirts and you are good to go . . . well, until you pack all that beach gear and toys!  Thankfully, we found several places where people had donated their items when finished so we 'borrowed' them while in Florida.  Now getting from St. Augustine to Amelia Island can be tricky but Marilyn read an article that there was a ferry that would keep us from having to drive back around and up.  So on the ferry we went . . .
It was only $9 for 5 people and car!  I think the kids enjoyed the experience even if it was only about a ride 15 minute ride across . . .
We were all happy to arrive to the condo at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation.  We made a quick stop at the grocery store to pick up food.  The condo was not available to check in until 4 so we just changed and headed to the pool.  I zipped down the street to buy a cheap cooler and ice to keep all the meat cold while we waited . . . and waited . . . 4:00pm came and went and room still wasn't ready.  We did manage to get a golf cart for free during our stay.  We were all a bit annoyed but finally got our keys.  We got settled into the condo which is for sale for only $750,000 . . . seriously that is the cost.  I guess with a view like this you can understand why . . .
Yes, the beach was that close!  They kids came back from the pool and dinner was served.  We quickly cleaned the kitchen and headed out to the beach to play and explore.
The beach was this empty every time we went . . . the three kids in the background and one other family.  It was so nice.  The shells were everywhere and fun to collect too . . .
. . . the sky was so pretty!  I tell you the beach and ocean are so peaceful and relaxing . . .
As we walked a huge helmet crab had washed up on shore . . .
Remember the shark scare yesterday?  Well no one set foot in the water past their ankles!  They sure did dig for hours even if it was really dark outside!
Oh and we picked up the golf cart too!  We took it for a late night spin and against the rules let each kid drive for a little bit . . . it was after 10:00pm and no one was out.  They each had a blast especially with the Chinese Fire Drills!  The golf cart was parked and we called it a night!  Colin's eye sure did change overnight . . .
. . . he had no idea so took a picture and showed him . . . he was shocked!
