to Whidbey Island, Washington

Today,  we are heading north and then west to Whidbey Island.  I never realized how many small islands there were off the coast of Washington until I looked at a ferry map!  The weather is beyond words gorgeous with a blue sky and a bright sun . . . oh but it was cold and in the upper 30s low 40s so to us Texans we were freezing!  As you enter Whidbey Island you pass right through Deception Pass State Park which is beautiful especially crossing the cool bridge, which I did not get a photo.  We make a quick stop at the Naval Air Station to see if we can see any F-18s out flying but no luck so back on the road we go.  Time to get out and soak up some sunshine and fresh air . . . brisk cold air . . . at Ebey's Landing.
The sun was so bright but can not imagine how cold it would have felt without it!  Just down the road is Fort Casey State Park.  Colin is excited to see a small raven and I am glad there is a big green open space to let him burn off some of his endless energy!

It really was a fun place to visit and explore!  We also stopped at the Admiralty Head Lighthouse . . .
The ferry back to mainland Washington leaves in 15 minutes so we decide to jump in line since we see the ferry approaching.  We jumped in the car and as we arrived it was unloading . . . perfect timing!
I was super impressed with how clean and efficient the ferry process was and in less than 20 minutes we were docking at Port Townsend.  As we exited the ferry, we take a right towards Fort Worton State Park which is similar to Fort Casey and just across the water.  The movie An Officer and a Gentleman was filmed here.  It is an old military base and a nice walk along the beach . . .
. . . he thought he was going to bring this rock back to Texas!  We popped into the Puget Sound Coast Artillery Museum which was worth a visit!  I learned this tidbit of information . . .
Then on to Bremerton which would be our final destination for the day.  We settled into the hotel and walked across the street to Anthony's for dinner.  I can not say enough about how good the dungeness crab cakes and pomegranate drop tasted; both so yummy.  My mouth is watering just thinking about both of them!
