One day; Two Islands! Again this is the reason I picked this cruise. I have always wanted to explore all the islands and this 10 day cruise gave me a good overview of so many. We docked in St. Kitts. Hurricane George nearly wiped out the island but they have rebuilt and love that the tourist are coming back. St. Kitts is 68 sq. miles and they claim to have more monkeys than people. Our first stop was to the Wingfield Estate so see the sugar mill ruins at The Sugar Factory.
The views are nice . . . Caribbean Sea on the right; Atlantic Ocean on the left.
We left St. Kitts by catamaran and headed to Nevis. The ride was rather rough and wet! There are about 13,000 people on the island and 67 churches. It is the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton.
The tour took us to a hot spring area that was man made and I did not remove my shoes to cleanse in the "healing water".
Seriously that is where they took us and man did they talk it up. The original hot springs house was probably pretty neat back in the day.
We continued to just drive around the island seeing not much. As you can probably tell, I am less than impressed with the cruise ship excursion! At least the views were amazing!
Our last stop which was around 230pm (I was starving!), is at Lime. A snack was included in our tour but had to pay for the drink so I gave the local beer a try.
We were carted to the meeting point on the beach where our boat would pick us up. I found myself a chair and relaxed on the beach. There was some time to just hang at the beach which was not part of the tour and could have been better spent touring the island but I wasn't in charge. Nothing more relaxing that laying in a lounge chair listening to waves crash on the beach.
You could see our group looking at their watches all wondering if we would make it back for the all on board time . . . but this is exactly why you book and excursion with the cruise ship and they wait on us if our excursion is late. The island time concept is not something that I understand; I'm too time orientated and prompt. Finally our boat showed up to take us back to the ship . . . an hour late. Good-bye Nevis!
