Berlin, day 1

As soon as we got off the plane and collected our bag we bought our Berlin Welcome card that entitled us to 72 hours of 'free' public transportation and discounts at museums. It turned out to be a good deal for us. Berlin is a BIG city . . . I know I should have know this but well I am sometimes oblivious to these sort of things.

After checking into our hotel we headed out on foot to explore . . . why did we buy the card again? We stopped into KaDeWe which is a huge, expensive department store but has one amazing food market inside too. I mean high end foods just a floor above all those expensive clothes that I will never wear. We went to the top floor where the food court was located . . . nothing like in America as it was fancy stuff but not too overpriced with a great view of the city . . . restaurant quality food with real utensils and glasses for your drink. We had some food and mapped out what was next . . . gotta get some use out of that Welcome Card you know. It was music to Colin's ears when he heard our first stop was a museum . . . he quickly had that look on his face and I just laughed!

My travel plan when traveling with Colin is always to do an adult activity and then a kid friendly activity. So since it was my turn to pick we went to the Pergamon Museum. The most famous exhibit are the Gates of Babylon that were 'stolen' from Iraq by German (LOL) . . . okay so maybe not totally correct but it does sound funny doesn't it? I was shocked at how massive these things were and the blue just won me over . . . really amazing and beautiful too.

Next up was suppose to be a kid activity but someone was less than cooperative so it did not happen . . . I know what a mean mother I am. I know he is totally exhausted so hopefully this will make him perk up and be better tomorrow because he has a big surprise in store tomorrow.

As we walked back to our hotel we passed the Kaiser-Wilhelm Memorial Church. Colin loved hearing the story about the church being bombed and seeing how it really destroyed such a beautiful church . . . 'love' isn't the best word but he was very focused and listening carefully . . . each time we passed he would ask questions and comment about the bombs.

Day 1 quickly came to an end which was good as I was t-i-r-e-d! We grabbed dinner at an Italian joint near the hotel and man that Pizza Hawaii was good . . . can't wait for tomorrow!
