Berlin, day 3

Well, since yesterday was full of seeing many things I decided to start the day off with a visit to the zoo . . . I was hoping it would get Colin off to a good start. We had to see Berlin's most famous resident, Knut. Of course he was right out front enjoying every snap of the camera not to mention the sun too!

Colin enjoyed snapping photos of all the animals and this emu/ostrich really shocked him when he stuck his head out of the fence as if he was going to bite him . . . he jumped back just like the swan that chased him last year in Switzerland and me being the great mother that I am; well, I laughed.
I learned that giving Colin a camera also managed to keep him busy and interested in what we were doing . . . of course it drove me a little crazy that he wanted to take photos of everything . . . don't know who he takes after, LOL . . . but it has been funny looking at things from his viewpoint.

After the zoo, we went to see Checkpoint Charlie which isn't the original one but hey it was where it once stood.

At this point we were running late for our coffee/tea meeting with my former student and his family. I hate being late but we lost track of time and it just sort of happened. We arrived at their house and it was so good to be in someone's home for a few hours . . . man the time went by so fast but was happy to visit. Hopefully next time we can just chat without the kiddo. James looks just like I remember only matured . . . when he called me the night before at the hotel to make plans he mentioned that last time he saw us he wasn't able to get a word in with Colin who was almost 11 months old . . . Colin was all over the place. As we chatted, I told him that some things haven't changed as Colin SO enjoyed all the attention and did not understand why we wanted to drink coffee/tea and talk instead of playing games with him. I love the photo of James and Colin . . . hopefully we can do it again . . . I have looked a million places for the photo taken five years ago but can't find it . . . I am still looking!
A section of the Berlin Wall . . .
Our last stop of the day was the DDR Museum: life in the GDR. It was small but I enjoyed seeing what houses looked like, things they did, the cars that some drove, and all about day to day life. It was interesting and a quick museum. Again we save some euro with our Berlin Welcome Card and it has more than paid for itself!

It is getting late and cold so another busy day winds down and dinner was a steak and baked potato . . . yummy!
