I wanted to get an early start but 5am wasn't exactly what I had planned. I had forgotten that there are a lot of hours of sunshine during the summer! It doesn't get dark until 10:30-11pm and who knows what time the sun comes back out again. We sort of hung out in the room and napped off and on and finally at 8:00am started getting dressed. It was Sunday so things don't open early but hey they are open! I tried to figure out how to take the bus to another part of town . . . that stuff always frustrates me! I finally figured out the correct direction but almost missed the stop as no one was on the bus and the driver only stopped if you rang the bell. I guess he knew we were tourist and stopped exactly where we needed to be! We were let off in an area called Nyhavn (which I think means New Harbor). This was anything but new . . . it was beautiful and already alive!
We arrived just as the DFDS Harbour Tour was starting so we bought tickets and jumped on board for the hour tour with a live guide . . . not that that was a selling point. We basically saw all the key places of Copenhagen that were on or near the water . . . it was a nice ride but it was very windy today!
This is the where the Queen lives . . . not too shabby
. . wish I would have taken a photo of the dock where they get on their yacht.
This is the most photographed church . . . need to find it before we leave because it is beautiful from afar!
One thing that I found interesting was this Lighthouse Boat . . .
. . . of course they are no longer used but neat . . . we missed going inside as only open on Saturday.
Of course a day would not be complete without a collection of photos of these:
We then grabbed lunch at a restaurant that lined the canal and set out to explore more! We walked down Stroget which is the longest pedestrianized shopping street in Europe measuring 1.8km . . . we are talking Cartier, Gucci, and Chanel at the top and tourist shops at the end so something for everyone's budget. We took a detour at the midpoint to visit the Round Tower.
. . . then back on Stroget for more walking with a stop for ice cream! We then headed back to the hotel for an extended swim and nap! Nap? Yes, I knew it would be a LONG night so I told Colin we had to take a 'rest' . . . of course he said he would just lay next to me while I was sleeping but when I woke he was sound asleep too! Long night? Yes, we were headed to Tivoli! I wanted to see it at night and day so we arrived around 6:30pm and had 4 hours before it got dark so best of both worlds so to speak. Can you tell who was having fun and who is scared of heights?
. . . that would be me scared of heights. I wish I had a picture of the actual ride because you would be laughing even harder! It was a small ferris wheel but no seat belts and Colin would move around and I would not be very happy! We had multi-ride passes which paid for themselves quickly. I had no choice but to ride as him riding solo wasn't an option! So I rode and let me tell you I am still certain I do NOT enjoy roller coasters or fast spinning things and Colin LOVES it . . . he also enjoys the traditional rides and 'kiddie' rides too!
Tivoli by night . . .
. . . and day . . .
Our night ended around 11:30pm so it was a super long day but we both had a good time!
