Copenhagen, day 3

Last night was a late night! I told Colin we did not have to be any where until 9:55am which was 5 minutes before breakfast ended at our hotel . . . yes, going to be one of those who slide in at the last minute. We were up and left the room at 9:30am and walked in five minutes later only to read the hours and see breakfast ended at 9:30am. So like any good want to be European, I quickly grabbed Colin a bowl of cereal and me a roll with butter. It was about all that we wanted anyway . . . we ate and left and there were still many people hanging out so did not feel too bad.

I really did not know what we were going to do today . . . we were both dragging but did not want to waste a day and not see or do something. We walked down the street to the Christiansborg Palace.
I had picked two of the seven museums that might keep Colin's attention. Our first stop was passing these guys and decided to snap our own photos too . . .

Of course we found a vacant 'hut' and took our photos because we would not want to disturb these guys or get into trouble. I will say they were very laid back and so not together . . . it was funny. I guess after seeing the Buckingham Palace guards you sort of expect all to be that precise. Anyway . . . our first museum was to explore the ruins under Christiansborg Palace. I will say that when I go to museums that have some sort of kid activity I want to jump up and down and give them a tip because it makes it so much more enjoyable for all involved. I think this place had one of the best if not the best we have ever done! It was a scavenger hunt to find crosses that had been placed on the ruins. I read Colin the story, he grabbed his flashlight, and was ready to go . . .

Here is a photo of what we were looking for . . . do you see them? There are 2 in this picture.

When all was said and done he found 21 which was the correct answer . . . here he is filling out the form. At the end of each month they draw for prizes and if you win they mail it to him . . .

I really enjoyed looking at the ruins . . . I could not get over all the details! I really did get to read a lot of information since Colin was busy looking for the crosses.

Our second museum was suppose to be the Royal Arsenal Museum but it was closed as it was a Monday and under renovation so we marked that off our list quickly! Colin wasn't that upset and was ready to find a 'Pigeon Party' so he could share the piece of bread he had . . .
. . . I knew it would not be long before he 'fell' into the water but he didn't which was shocking.

We continued to walk 'towards' the hotel and checked out an area that were small cobble stoned streets known as Straedet. It lead us back to the long shopping street, Stroget. We were both feeling tired after a big lunch so took a break for some ice cream . . . Colin had chocolate and watermelon and I had mojito and lemoncello. Can you say YUMMY

Of course after the refreshing ice cream, we were worthless and nothing on our list so we wandered back to the hotel. We stopped at the Radhus (town hall) . . .
Colin became friends with an old man feeding the pigeons. The man had found one with a hurt leg and was making sure she was eating . . . he took Colin's hand and filled it with food and commanded him to feed only 'that' one and then the man went and sat on the bench. Of course Colin did . . . when we left I made Colin go tell the man bye. The old man smiled really big!
And I could not at least mention Hans Christian Andersen who lived in Copenhagen and is mentioned often . . .
Yesterday at Tivoli they had an entire ride about his fairy tales which had just been completely redone and it was nice! It was called 'The Flying Trunk'. You sat in a big trunk that moved along the tracks and gave short condensed story of his most famous fairy tales. Colin really doesn't know them, but I enjoyed it.

We decide to head back to the hotel for a little rest which means I needed a nap because the late night was catching up with me! Of course we then headed to the pool for almost two hours. We walked down the road for dinner and returned to the hotel to enjoy an ice cream outside. The weather has been fabulous . . . probably just totally jinxed myself.

One thing I have noticed is this . . .
. . . apparently Denmark or maybe just Copenhagen is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the number of kilometers they ride a bike each day! I guess I could go google it but will just trust the tour guide who told me. This was taken outside the train station (red buildings). The train station is beautiful . . . tonight I looked up and could not believe how beautiful the wood rafters were but took no photos.

And last before we called it a night . . .

. . . sending special postcard greetings from afar . . . only one more postcard to send . . . I just don't know what to think about that but first we are setting sail tomorrow . . . literally!
