It has been a very long time since we have seen some of our friends from Germany . . . like since we left in November 2004 . . . I did see them in March 2005 but Colin wasn't with me. So after years of conflicting schedules and me beating around the bush, I just booked a quick trip to visit in connection with our Thanksgiving break. It sure was nice not taking a crack of dawn flight out of our small town airport and even better all the flights were on time . . . packed full but on time!
I have never flown into Washington Reagan but was sort of in panic mode as we were descending . . . I swear it seemed as if we were just feet from landing into the Potomac River. It was not a good feeling and it was dark! The view of the Washington Monument at dark was SO beautiful.
After we linked up with our friends, we headed to Old Town Alexandria to walk around and eat dinner . . . Colin was very happy to have his own Pizza Margherita!

when I was a senior in high school, I flew to DC for CYLC. it was my 1st trip on my own.
ReplyDeletewhen we were over the Potomac, I had a random flashback that scared me...
I had remembered a view from helicopters overlooking a plane crash (turns out it was in 1982) into the Potomac. I didn't realize I had remembered actual news coverage from years before, until I told my folks about it later.
Really weirded me out when I was in the plane, let me tell ya!
