Bodie, CA

After we exited Yosemite we needed to get some gas . . . the cheapest place was $4.57 compared to $4.79 . . . yikes! It is California after all but almost a $1 more than any other place in California. What are you to do? So we filled up and I did not even look at the total amount but probably at least two arms and a leg. Our main reason for exited to the east of Yosemite was to take a detour to here . . .
It was a booming mining town back in the late 1800s where about 10,000 people lived, but now it is a ghost town.

Of course today only a small part of the town remains. You just park and walk around; most building are closed but you can look inside the windows. It was neat. I was amazed that the people just left after the big rush . . . stores were left stocked and 'stuff' just everywhere. I'm sure they have done some moving of objects for historic purposes but for the most part it is just as it was . . . these gas pumps were cool and Colin did not believe that is what they really were . . .
Inside the General store . . . I thought I was on Little House on the Prairie for a minute . . . super neat to look at the items, but I was sneezing just looking at all that dust . . .
Outside of the church . . .
. . . and the inside . . .

Inside one of the pool halls or 'entertainment' saloons . . . wonder what they did through that door?

Another view of the buildings and think that is some sort of cart used in mining . . .

I loved this house that had shifted . . .

It was worth the stop even if it was a long 13 miles of road . . . the last 3 were unpaved and very bumpy!
