Camp Hearne, TX

A couple of years back I saw a billboard advertising a former POW camp . . . what?  How could that be?  Seriously POW Camps in Texas?  I sort of forgot about it until I saw it again on our way to the Aggie football game last month.  I went to the website and sign up for updates.  I got an email telling me that today was their open house with all sorts of demonstrations and displays.

Colin did not have a soccer game and the weather was beautiful so we loaded up and made the hour drive to see what it was all about.  It was worth it!  Colin complained about going and began to bargain on just how long we could stay, and in the end it was him who was not ready to leave!
I was amazed that this place existed and had never heard about it.  Sadly, very little of the original camp remains but it is amazing how large it was when it was operating!

Colin's favorite part was the weapon demonstration and retrieving the empty shells at the end.

Nice day trip!  We also stopped at a local Mexican restaurant that I had been wanting to stop at since my days of driving back and forth on Highway 6 . . . Ama's was yummy!
