She reappeared from her room with a stepping stool and spilled the beans. She thought she might have thrown the rental car keys away last night. OH NO! When we arrived she was carrying the box of wine upstairs and threw the keys into the wine box so she would not drop them. I had put all the wine away and never noticed the keys in the box and then used the box for trash. The kids all joked and laughed; I felt sick to my stomach. I think Colin had the best line when he said he was going to call her Miss Loose-iana. Nothing like dumpster diving when you are renting a condo valued at over 1.4 million dollars. Thankfully, the trash had been picked up the day before so she knew the chances were good the box was still there. She did find our box and the keys were in the box; what a relief. She also commented on how nice and tidy the trash was in the dumpster. I laughed! Man we dodged a huge possible catastrophe! I don't even want to think about what the fee would have been for that accident! All of this took place in about 10 minutes or less . . . it felt like hours! We all quickly regrouped and the kids and Marilyn were all off to ski school. I was taking the day off to explore downtown and relax. I am still not feeling well so will be good to hang out. I stopped for an early lunch at the Crepe A la Cart . . .
. . . I had the Crepe Benedict and it was sooooo yummy! The last two years we have passed this place and there is always a long line so this year I was going to wait and give it a try. It was worth the wait! So many choices too. After I shopped a bit and made a quick grocery store stop, I headed back to the condo for a bit before heading to the slopes to watch the kids. I have an app called EpicMix on my phone that tracks where they are on the slopes; super cool! I am always amazed at how well they are skiing and how difficult it is to find them on the slopes! I swear could someone make a boys ski jacket in another color other than blue? Again caught him just as he was returning to ski school . . .
The kids had been promised a ride on the Alpine Coaster if it was open, so off we went for that . . .
. . . and about the same time everyone else decided to leave Peak 8 and the line for the gondola was painfully long. Colin complained the entire time we waited, and I was getting seriously annoyed. We arrived back at the condo and starting prepping for the big event tonight! As part of my big 4-0 birthday celebration, Marilyn hired a private chef to come to the condo to cook dinner and do a few cooking demonstrations for us. I was so excited! Our table was set to remind me of the milestone . . .
. . . what is that cucumber doing in the photo you ask? Well due to the high altitude we don't know how to bake up here so our only option for a 'cake' was a cucumber! Need a closer look?
We were all excited about Sarah (the chef lady) coming to show us some fun recipes and good food. She did not disappoint and was a true delight to visit and chat with! I think I must have asked her about a million questions. Before we arrived we all traded emails about what we wanted to eat and cook, she was insistent on one appetizer for stuffed dates. I was like ummmm NO! She planned on them anyway and I prepared them. As you can see, I was still not convinced!
Dates? Seriously those things were to die for yummy! I think I ate . . . well, it was almost my birthday so who cares how many I ate! Our masterpieces . . .
So the dates (on the left) were stuffed with parmesan cheese, wrapped in bacon and broiled. The dipping sauce was raspberry-chipotle . . . yeah I was totally wrong they were divine! I had so much fun . . .
and the kids were all so good and sort of entertained themselves and would wander in to eat and see what was going on with the three crazy ladies! And then Sarah had to leave . . .
What a great way to start the next decade!
Colin's Ski School Day 2 Summary . . .
. . . no wonder someone was SO tired tonight!
