Around Town: Waco

Colin went to spend the night with my parents after his basketball game so today I am out exploring local places that I never manage to visit.
First Stop and an early one to the farmer's market . . .
I have a few favorites at the market . . . Sempre Pie (fried pies; so many favorites but the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake is so good), Oh Kimchi Austin (love the vegan napa), Round Rock Honey (honey), and Rancho Martinez Tamales (oh my goodness, melt in your mouth amazing tamales).  I grabbed my favorites and off to my next stop.

Next stop:  Breakfast at Homestead Heritage . . . is was just okay.  I ordered French Toast and it was full of raisins which was not mentioned on the menu; I hate raisins!  I will try lunch next time since the menu sounded yummy . . . will definitely go back with Colin and walk around since he would probably like wandering around outside too.

Final Stop:  Waco Mammoth Site . . .
Now this has been open for years and for years I  have been saying I was going to go.  Today was the day!  I really enjoyed it!  The best part was no one else showed up for that time slot tour so I had a private guided tour.  It was a great tour and included in the $7 entry fee.
It is really pretty cool to think these huge mammoths roamed this area . . .
Check out the difference in a human femur and mammoth femur . . .
Oh and speaking of crazy sizes did you know mammoths had six sets of teeth?
For several years there has been a big local push for the mammoth site to be included under the National Park Service; so time will tell.  It was well worth the visit and finished off my day by picking up Colin.  For dinner I enjoyed the black bean and cheese tamales and spicy chicken (which aren't that spicy) tamales with a super yummy pie . . . why didn't I buy two (or three) pies!  I need to do this more often.
