not as planned

I think it is hard to fly across the pond and adjust your sleep pattern. It is even harder doing it with a child in tow. We failed miserably yesterday . . . I gave in at 2pm and told Colin we would take a hour nap and get up . . . set the alarm and well continued to sleep 45 minutes longer. When I woke I started trying to wake him up too. It was hard and he was not very happy with me. He finally came around and we stayed awake until 10pm. I tell you I was SO tired! What I wasn't planning on was sleeping until 1245pm the next day . . . man that was a lot of sleep but apparently we needed it. I love those rolladens (exterior window shade) but they worked a little too well last night.

As soon as we woke, I decided we needed to get out of the house and get some fresh air so we walked down the road to the Edeka (grocery store). We only needed a few things but Colin continued to tell me how tired he was and then he started coughing. It was the cough that gives the mommy radar alert that something is about to come up . . . it was 2pm and we had not eaten since last night. I pulled a bag out of my purse and he was becoming so very pale . . . I ran to the drink aisle and grabbed a Sprite and made him sit and drink. I got him up and dashed to check out so we could get outside for some fresh air. As I paid he plopped himself in the floor . . . great as we had a long walk back to the house. I put him in a chair outside the bakery and got him a freshly baked pretzel to eat . . . we 'rested' and he seemed to feel better. Oh did I mention he had to go to the restroom half way there? I made him go in a field and take care of business . . . all I could see was a really white behind. Of course no camera to snap that moment. Man if the first 24 hours are this 'exciting' I can only imagine what lies ahead.

Here's hoping we manage to go to bed at a decent hour tonight. The adventure is about to get under way so stay tuned!
