Los Angeles, CA

We were heading north so of course I was looking for a place to stop along the way. It was Sunday so was hoping traffic in LA would not be that bad but of course it was crazy crowded. We managed to make it to the La Brea Tar Pits with plenty of time and not too far off our projected arrival. I had never heard of this place but was very fascinated!
You could see the water bubbling up in the tar pit and the smell of tar was strong. We went inside the Page Museum to learn more about the tar pits. The introduction film was good and set up the time line of what was discovered. I was amazed at the number of remains that were found and the condition was unbelievable too. All the displays were a darker color than other skeletons because they were in the tar pits for many years. There were saber tooth tigers, mammoths, wolves, many fowls, and many others.

It was really neat and glad we made the detour! Later that evening Colin was watching an episode of Wacky Races and they referenced the La Brea Tar Pits . . . we laughed of course but now we know where and what!
