San Diego, CA

First stop was the Cabrillo National Monument. I thought the entrance sign was really pretty especially the ship on top.
As we were driving in we noticed an aircraft carrier was headed the same direction. As we approached the parking lot we heard an announcement on the speaker wishing the crew of the USS John C. Stennis a safe departure and time at sea. We watched as the ship sailed by us and then out of sight. Of course I was thinking of the families especially the one standing near us with a sign and two young toddlers. Seems like forever since I had to experience that but only yesterday too . . . it never gets easier I suppose.

The statue of Cabrillo where he landed back in the 1500s. . .
As the Stennis was almost out of our view we walked up to the lighthouse . . .

. . . and enjoyed the really cooler weather. I could so live near the ocean especially the mild temperatures year round! They had some good displays on whale migration but it was not the right time of year to see them . . .

We loaded up and headed to our final stop of the day . . . the USS Midway. Of course we had no idea we would get to see a real ship going to sea and tour one too so Colin was excited!

tight quarters, earned Junior Pilot wings, and the very important red phone

Colin really loved crawling into the jets!
